If you have no idea about vlc media player's shortcuts,
then go ahead and start vlc media player and
click on Tools/ Preferences and then hot keys on the window that pops up...
you will see a variety of shortcuts from
PLAY
S- Stop
Ctrl+L- Playlist
Ctrl+L- Playlist
Shift+Right- 5 Seconds Forward Jump
Alt+Left- 10 Seconds Backward Jump
Alt+Right- 10 Seconds Forward Jump
Ctrl+Left- 1 Minute Backward Jump

Steps
- Open any video in VLC Media Player
- Now press 'F' key to view the video in full screen
- Alt+Space+S and move your cursor or Arrow/ Navigation keys and hit enter
- Alt+Space+M and move your cursor or Arrow/ Navigation keys and hit enter
- Repeat steps 3 & 4 till you are satisfied
- Bingo...!!
